US Embassy in Beijing China
August 29Th, a dear friend of mine, the girl that I met in China seven years ago, went to the US Embassy in Beijing China. The waiting hall was crowded with Chinese waiting for their interview. During her wait, my friend became ill, seeking a place to sit down she wondered out into a hallway where she indeed found some empty seating. Unfortunately some Chinese who worked for the embassy wouldn't let her sit down, and ridiculed her for seeking comfort. My friend finally found seating, where she could get a bit of relief, the women's restroom.
Finally she was called for her interview. The officer asked her why she wanted to go to the US, she answered, "To visit my friend Paul." The officer began asking a series of questions concerning her relationship with me. His last question was, "Do you have a job?" Being a fresh graduate from college she answered, "No." With that, the officer typed a few things into the computer and stated, "Denied." My friend inquired why, the officer simply said, "You have no ties in China."
The Embassy's website states that officers take into consideration that young Chinese may not have had a chance to establish ties, that is build wealth, buy a house things like that. As well, further statements on the website says that the officer will take all evidence into consideration. The officer interviewing my friend never looked at the documentation that she brought which included her bank statements showing tens of thousands of dollars in the bank, and a letter from me, promising that she would return to China.
My friend walked away disappointed, heart broken. She had waited seven years to come and visit Coy and I. Not only that, it cost her parents almost a months pay to get her to the Embassy, and the application fee. She walked way with the idea that one must be rich to get a visa. I think it is a shame that a U.S. Citizen cannot invite a friend, a young girl, from a foreign country to visit without them being put through the wringer.
I would ask that you keep her in your prayers because she will be applying for an F-1 Visa in November. This is a student visa, which would allow her to attend a graduate course at a US university. She is also the girl I spoke about who follows Falun gong. She needs to be lifted up for that too.
