Disunity of the Body

Greetings fellow travelers I am truly saddened. Many of the people I shepherded through six mission trips to China are no longer friends with me on Face Book, mainly because of differences in political or sociological beliefs. It appears those of us who call ourselves Christian have become like the Jews, we have Pharisee, Sadducee and Sanhedrin, in other words divisions in religious, political and social spheres. It is hard enough not to have divisions within the religious sphere, add the other two and we are in serious trouble. Paul speaks to the Church of Corinth about unity. He often speaks of unity in the body. One other point he makes is that we are not to be of the world; in the world we have no choice. When you couple this together you have water and oil. We interpret the bible differently. Most of us intertwine our personal political and social beliefs into how we view passages in the bible. This is the oil and water metaphor. If one is insensitive to an extreme regarding a social issue, they will have a very different idea of biblical doctrine compared to a person who is very sensitive to social issues. Both will interpret the bible to meet their personal needs. Hence we have split and split and split until we have an infinite number of denominations. This leads me to the next point, how can we have unity when we have so much disunity? We have disunity from the largest denomination, The Catholic church, to the smallest, stand alone churches. Evil wins when we are not united. The United States is a prime example of this. We see a fall in our moral values over the last 60 years. The church has taken a silent role, virtually a back seat to the social changes. So much so that today, Jesus is all but removed from the town center. As long as God is removed from our town centers, evil can thrive and has been thriving. It is long past due for the silent majority to no longer be silent. We must unit; we must accept each other’s differences, stop the finger pointing and claims of heresy over minor details. But more so, we need to unit on exactly what the bible says is wrong and right, bottom line.
